ASSOCIATION FOR THE PROTECTION OF ENDANGERED BIRD SPECIES (APASG) Switzerland – Greece

AMAZONAS PARK ASSOCIATION (APASG) was founded in January 2015. It consists of a park in Greece and a breeding facility in Switzerland. APASG actively promotes the preservation of currently endangered parrot and bird species, and the protection and conservation of their natural environment in the country of origin.

EDUCATION

Through educational programs in cooperation with universities and experienced breeders, APASG will inform and teach people in the country of origin about endangered bird species and their natural habitat. The local population will be encouraged to become involved in projects.

The Association organizes international conventions and workshops for bird fanciers.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

APASG will support targeted local long term projects for the conservation and protection of wild parrots and other birds in their natural environment. This will include acquiring regions in the country of origin, supplying nesting places (e.g. nesting boxes) and protecting endangered bird species against threats such as predators, parasites,…

SPECIES CONSERVATION

APASG has one of the most unique collections of large parakeets and parrots in the world. The Association is committed to achieve the best possible breeding results with endangered bird species. The aim is to build up a breeding stock for the future, preferably from different bloodlines. The ultimate goal is to reintegrate bird species which are extinct in the wild or seriously endangered into their natural habitat.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Teams carry out field research to evaluate how APASG can contribute best to the conservation of the environment and gain better breeding results. Wild stocks are studied. Young birds are closed ringed and followed.

1st PROJECT

The first project between Deli Nature, Amazonas Park and the breeding facility in Switzerland resulted in four top quality parrot mixtures composed for each continent.
