Open front design is generally suitable for finches such as Zebra finches and Bengalese finches.
The round hole design is generally preferred by smaller finches such as star finches, hecks etc.

My zebra finch and bengalese love the little boxes.
Though not used yet, this box seems to have been well made and finished, I bought this box due to the lifting top that seems to meet my needs.
